Nefertiti Resurrected: Found or Still in Discovery?

January 29, 2009 at 8:57 am (Ancient Egypt)

nefertiti3     Ancient Egypt was ruled by Pharaoh Akhenaton and his wife, the most beautiful, important, an powerful woman of all, Nefertiti. Her name meant perfection and she had six daughters. What was mostly rare about this queen is that even though she was very powerful, there were not much artifacts that would give us information about her. Because of this, her mummy has not been found yet. Dr. Fletcher, an archaeologist, believes that Nefertiti’s mummy is located in the Valley of the Kings in which tumb robbers took most of Nefertiti’s posessions and smashed her body out of hate because of some sins she committed. I agree with the idea that the mummy is the powerful and beautiful Nefertiti.

To begin with, Dr. Fletcher began her quest after she saw a wig in a museum and knew since that time that the wig belonged to a royal egyptian woman, which would mostly be Nefertiti. Later on, in the tumb called KV35, located in the Valley of the Kings, three mummies were found. Sadly, when they found them, they did’nt have their bandages on and couldn’t recognize them. One is believed by D.r Fletcher to be Nefertiti because it matches her theory of her body being torn and smashed and also because there are two other mummies which are believed tot be Kye, Nefertiti mother-in-law, and Moses, Akhenaton’s older brother. Also, later on we find out that the mummy is a female. This mummy is also wearing a headband that was used by royal people because they wore a type of crown. The mummy had double piercings and that is also very imporant because Nefertii was know for wearing double piercings. Also, when they were doing the x-ray analysis, the found a piece of jewelry that goes around the neck that only royaly was alowto wear. With this evidence, I strongly believe that this mummy is Nefertiti.

The other reason why I think that this mummy is Neferititi is because it was the only mummy out of the three that had its mouth crushed and also its chest. During Akhenaton and Nefertiti’s time, they created thei r onw religion which was to adore the Sun God, Atem. This new religion caused alot of controversy in the empire especially for the priests because Akhenaton and Nefertiti were breaking tradition. This caused a revolution and made Egypt go into chaos. Because of this, many people hated Akhenaton and Nefertiti. This might must have been the reason why the robber smashed her mouth and body. Long time ago, if a mummy or a dead body was crushed or eaen by something, then it was the lowest thing it could happen to them, it was worst than dead it self. I think the robber did this out of hatred for her because he knew that mummy was Nefertiti.

Egypt’s hard laws forbid Dr. Fletcher to mae DNA samples of the mummy because they are very strict about people investigating their artifacts and mummies. She’ll just have to work with the x-rays they took from the mummy and other analysis to figure out who this mummy really is. Once they reconstruct the mummy’s face, we will know who was this dead person and if it was as beautiful as they’ve said in the early times.

Neolithic Revolution: Why Was it Important?

January 28, 2009 at 11:45 am (Paleolithic & Neolithic World)

The Neolithic Revolution was important because of the reasons that people learned how to farm and domesticate animals, they started to settle in one place and were no longer nomads, and also because of the better technology at that time. Since they started growing their own food, they did no need to move from place to place looking for food anymore. Little by little groups of people started living together in one settled place and that’s how cities started. This cities were better than living in caves and moving around. As the cities grew bigger and bigger, leaders were formed to keep food from being scarce. With that, also wealth status appeared dependiong on how much possesions a person had. To find out ways to protect their crops and measure the total number of seeds for next year, farmers created calendars to keep track of time. With the domestication of animals and farming, Neolithic people made clothing out of animal skin and vegetable fibers. Also they made tools such as smooth, polished ax heads and chipped arrowheads.
