It’s militarists beliefs were so strong that young baby born childs had to be proven to be worthy to be soldiers. To do this, the father would take the born child to the Gerousia. If he was worthy to be  a soldier, he would live, if not, then the baby was killed. The military trainnig of a Spartan started at the age of 7. After long years of trainning, finally, at the age of 18, a male Spartan could join the army.

Spartans were known for their fearless fighting at the Battle of Thermopylae. This battle lastted 3 days. The battle was lead by King Leonidas I. Although there were only 300 of them, they were able to kill over 20,000 Persians. At the last day of the battle, the Persian managed to surround the Spartans. King Lonidas had sent his allies to get them by surprise on the way to their location. But, in fear of leaving their homeland alone and of it getting invaded by the Persian, the allies retired and went back to their homeland leaving Leonidas, the Spartans, and the ones that decided to stay and fight, to battle the Persians. The Persians won the battle, but lost alot of its men.
